Course A: For Provincially regulated companies whose Managers and Supervisors require an understanding of the OHSA of Ontario.

Course B: For Federally regulated companies or if you are a provincially regulated company that works with federally regulated companies. Canada Labour Code, Part II

Training is offered around Southern Ontario including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, Niagara Falls, Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge.

Health and Safety Law Training for Managers and Supervisors : Course A – Provincial Regulations

Cost:

  • 6 participants or less: $1,425 / session
  • 7 – 12 participants: $229 / person
  • 13 – 25 participants: $199 / person

Time: Full day

Included: Health and Safety Law Training for Managers and Supervisors Participant Manual with OHSA Legislation

The OHSA mandates that all Managers and Supervisors be ‘competent’ in their roles at their workplaces. For a manager/supervisor “competent”, that person must be:      

(a) qualified because of knowledge, training and experience to organize the work and its performance

(b) familiar with this Act and the regulations that apply to the work, and

(c) have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace

This course is designed to assist in meeting the requirements of items (b) and (c) above and also ensure that Managers and Supervisors have the knowledge required to play their role in maintaining a healthy and safe workplace and protect employees.

By understanding and carrying out their duties, Managers and Supervisors will be able to play a crucial role in the overall management of health and safety and the control of health and safety hazards in the workplace.

  • Occupational Health and Safety Act and how it applies to you
  • Duties of employers, managers/supervisors and workers
  • What is due diligence
  • Roles and responsibilities of Joint Health and Safety committee /safety reps
  • Work refusal and work stoppage
  • Workplace violence and harassment
  • Enforcement offences and penalties

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Locate applicable OHSA Legislation relating to your industry
  • Understand your health and safety responsibilities
  • Take leadership in developing and implementing a Health & Safety program
  • Understand consequences of non-compliance
  • Exercise due diligence

Cost:

The Canada Labour Code Part II requires federally-regulated employers to “ensure that employees who have supervisory or managerial responsibilities are adequately trained in health and safety and are informed of the responsibilities they have” (Clause 125(1)(z)).

Course Outline:

  • Federal versus provincial regulatory jurisdiction for workplace health and safety in Canada
  • The classes and types of employers and employees who are subject to the Canada Labour Code, Part II
  • Your roles and responsibilities under the Canada Labour Code, Part II
  • The duties of Employers and Workers under the Canada Labour Code, Part II
  • Scope and application of the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and other regulations under the Canada Labour Code, Part II
  • The enforcement, prosecution and penalty framework under the Canada Labour Code, Part II
  • Health and safety management system elements to maintain compliance and protection
